Public Libraries have changed dramatically over the years and the Boyne Regional Library is no exception. The Library was first organized by The Young Citizen’s Group in 1943 with all the books showcased in local store windows. After outgrowing several temporary locations the library was permanently located in the former Post Office in 1972. This beautiful heritage building was built in 1914 and is easily recognized by the clock tower that still chimes today on the hour.
Over the years the library has seen three building extensions. The latest renovation was completed in 2020. This 1.2 million dollar expansion was made possible through the generosity of donors, the support of the community and countless hours by volunteers fundraising. This extension doubled the children’s area and provided a fully accessible front entrance for all.
With over 40,000 visits per year, a circulation of 132,000 and an average of 500 children participating in the summer reading program the library continues to be relevant and one of the busiest rural libraries in Manitoba.
The library continues to strive to serve the needs of the community offering additional services, library programming, expanding the collections and providing up to date technology.
