Situated in the picturesque Pembina Valley, Carman offers a wide variety of truly Manitoba winter day trip activities for outdoor adventurers.

Morning: Ski Your Heart Out!
Only 30 minutes west of Carman is the Birch Ski area, boasting over 25 km of ski trails, groomed weekly, for novice to expert skiers. Journeying through beautiful valleys and gullies, the trails allow for skate and classic skiing. New to skiing? Lessons are available every Saturday or by appointment, and cross country skis may be rented at the clubhouse. If you’re feeling chilly, the Area offers a central clubhouse, waxing tent and warm-up shack.
Approximately 35 minutes west of Carman is Pumpkin Creek, offering 20 km of well-groomed classic trails, with shorter and longer loops winding along the scenic creek and over hilly terrain. The clubhouse offers skis for rent to men, women and children, as well as a place to warm up after or during your ski. $5 trail fee for individuals, or $10 per family.
Lunch: Warm-Up with a View
Cozy up to the fireplace and take in sweeping view of the great outdoors while enjoying a hearty platter at the Carman Golf & Curling Club restaurant. Or, you can choose from a wide array of family favourites at McGee’s Family Restaurant. The licensed restaurant offers a relaxed dining atmosphere, and the menu features food for all ages.
Afternoon: Lace Up And….
Lace up and hit the rink at the Carman Dufferin Arena, one of the main public attractions in the area. Both Side A and Side B offer recreation hockey, open hockey and open skating. The arena opens in September, and schedules are available by calling 204-745-1990.
Lace up and warm up at the Carman 5 Pin Bowl, a mainstay of the community for 45 years. Recently renovated, Carman 5 Pin Bowl offers eight lanes of public bowling most days of the week, and glow bowling, along with a lounge, concession stand and shoe rental. Dinner: Chinese Feast
Satisfy the appetite you’ve worked up with authentic Chinese and Szechuan food at Tidbits Restaurant. Tidbits is open 11:00 am – 9:00 pm Tuesday – Friday and Sunday, and 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, with lunch specials on weekdays and a Chinese buffet on Sunday.

Visit Carman for Blizzard Fest, the first Saturday in February, for an activity-packed outdoor winter excursion. Ideal for families with children, Blizzard Fest offers up a truly Manitoban winter experience, with plenty of free outdoor activities (such as dog sled rides, jam pail curling and snow sculpting), warm-up locations with free hot chocolate, and prizes to be won.
