Take a winter day trip to Carman!

Manitoba winters might be some of the harshest in the country, but we’re some of the hardiest people in Canada, so we can handle it! Instead of getting cabin fever (especially when the kids are on holiday break), take day trips!

Where better to go than Carman and RM of Dufferin? Here are all the reasons to spend a day (or longer!) in the area.

A hop, skip, and a jump

Many families’ first thought might be “A day trip? With kids? Too far!” Luckily, Carman is only 40 minutes south of Winnipeg along Highway 3. Once you’re in Carman, there’s plenty to do either in town or very close by. We’re the perfect home base for tons of activities!

Delicious delights and a casual stroll

Stop in for lunch at the legendary McGee’s Family Restaurant and enjoy delicious Manitoba cuisine — wraps, homemade soups, burgers, and more! There’s something for everyone at this Carman institution located at the Carman Golf and Curling Club (4 Ave SW).

Next, walk off those calories along Carman’s 7km Community Pathway, which winds its way through the town, intertwining with nature and providing stunning prairie vistas that make perfect photo ops!

Shine up your skis!

Just minutes from Carman are two beautiful ski areas that are each wonderful for skiers of all skill levels. The closer of the two is Birch Ski Area, which features over 25km of ski trails that are groomed weekly, with trails for both novices and experts.

Pumpkin Creek is roughly 35 minutes from Carman and offers 20km of well-groomed, classic trails. There are shorter and longer loops, depending on how much time you want to spend there, and many of them wind along the scenic creek over hills and gullies (great for even more photos!). Trail fees at Pumpkin Creek are only $5 for individuals or $10 per family.

Enjoy local art

The Golden Prairie Arts Council features local art, with year-round exhibitions. Located in the historic train station building, the gallery retains much of the original structure, showcasing Carman’s history while promoting current art.
