What Makes Carman and the RM of Dufferin so ‘Bloomin’ Great?’

Spring has sprung, and that means the ice is melting, robins are hopping, and flower season is upon us! Whether you’re looking for indoor plants or planning an elaborate backyard garden, Carman is the place to come and get all of your blooms for the season. Our nurseries and florists offer everything from roses to fruit trees and so much more.

What Makes Carman and the RM of Dufferin the “Flower Hub” of Manitoba?
We’ve got space! Our largest nursery, Aubin Nurseries, spans over 500 acres! Nearby Vanderveen’s Greenhouses has 20 acres of greenhouses, offering you choices galore to suit every taste, plan, and garden type. Both these nurseries are quite large as Canadian plant wholesalers, shipping plants all over the country.

Growing beautiful flowers, shrubbery, and trees is also a Carman tradition. Aubin Nurseries has been in operation since 1927, passed down through the Aubin family from generation to generation. Vanderveen’s has been in business since 1970, started by Jack and Louwina Vanderveen as just a few plants in a few greenhouses. 2019 also marks the 90th anniversary of the Garden Club of Carman, which held its very first meeting in March of 1929. In the early days of the Garden Club, there were 133 members who paid only $1 for membership.

Earlier this year, the Garden Club hosted the Manitoba Horticulture Association’s 12th Annual General Meeting and Convention, where the club celebrated becoming a nonagenarian with cake. The Garden Club of Carman’s annual Garden Celebration Tour is on July 20, 2019 from 12:30pm to 5:00pm.
